Alaska judge becomes the new National Advocacy Committee Chair

Beginning in January 2009, Janel Wright of Anchorage, AK will serve as Chair of the National Advocacy Committee.  Janel has had type 1 diabetes for 30 years and is an active volunteer for the American Diabetes Association and a judge in Alaska.

She has served on the National Board of Directors, the Advocacy Committee, and the Legal Advocacy Subcommittee. “I am so honored and excited to serve as the Chair of the National Advocacy Committee.” said Janel.  “I look forward to working with ADA volunteers and staff to advance ADA’s advocacy agenda and raise awareness about this serious disease.”

Janel has been a tireless advocate for people with diabetes and all people with disabilities. In September 2008, Janel received the Carolyn Peter Volunteerism Award from the state of Alaska. The award honors a person who devotes considerable time to activities that affect people with disabilities at local, state or national levels. Janel was honored for ensuring equal rights for people with disabilities and for being a role model to others.
