The American Diabetes Association has established five overarching health reform goals.  Our goals for health reform are:

  • Reduce burden of diabetes and other chronic disease
  • Ensure health care coverage that is accessible, adequate, and affordable for all
  • Improve health outcomes
  • Eliminate health disparities
  • Contain costs

Our specific health reform objectives fall into three categories:

  • Health Care
Health care should ensure quality care, chronic disease specific care, and preventive care.
  • Health Promotion
Health promotion should ensure that all sectors of society have a shared stake, influence, and responsibility in diabetes prevention and/or management.
  • Health Financing
Health financing should be a shared responsibility that provides adequate financial incentives for individuals, families, employers, health care providers, state governments and the federal government to have access to adequate and affordable health care.
