Health Care Reform Now

North Carolina Enacts Legislation on Diabetes Care Reporting Requirements
Thanks to the hard work of our North Carolina Diabetes Advocates, Governor Beverly Perdue signed the Diabetes Control Plans in Charter Schools bill (SB 738) into law. The law will require schools to report whether they are compliant with the existing Care for Students with Diabetes Act.


Fighting For Fairness: Ending Discrimination
The American Diabetes Association will present “Fighting For Fairness: Ending Discrimination Against Students and Workers with Diabetes” on October 23-24 in Atlanta, GA. This training provides attorneys with information and resources needed to assist people with diabetes who face discrimination at school and in the workplace. Learn more

 

Health Care Matters

JeremiahJeremiah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2007.  Now a huge portion of his monthly income goes to paying for his diabetes prescriptions and supplies.  Because Jeremiah has no insurance, he’s also had to delay treatment and care because of cost.  A small business owner, he’s tried to get insurance coverage for himself and his employees, but “it was going to be over $2,000 a month, and the coverage wasn’t even going to cover my diabetes, or kick in for a year.”   Jeremiah hopes legislators realize that everyone should have access to health care. “I’m not asking for the best care in the world, but just something.” Read more and learn how you can help
